Password Protected Directories
Learn how to create a protected and user-only area in your web site with password-protected directories.
A password-protected directory or area is a folder that can be accessed only if a username and a password are entered, so no unauthorized individuals can observe its content. This feature could be used for the main folder of a certain website or just for a specific subfolder in accordance with your requirements. As an illustration, when you are creating a new website and you don't want people to see it prior to it being ready, you need to prohibit the access to it entirely, whereas if you would like only some individuals to be able to access specific files, you'll be able to password-protect only a certain folder, while the other parts of the website could be seen by everybody. Either way, a “403 Forbidden” error page will appear in case the login details the visitor types in are not right. Even a direct link to a file will not work as long as any folder above it is password-protected.
Password Protected Directories in Shared Web Hosting
All our Linux shared web hosting include an exceptionally useful tool that will allow you to secure any folder inside your account from unauthorized access with only two mouse clicks. Once you log in to your Hepsia website hosting Control Panel, you will only have to navigate to the Password Protection section, to select the main domain or subdomain, to specify the folder which needs to be protected - the root folder or some folder under it, and then to enter the username and the password that have to be used in order to access the content in question. The feature shall be active right away, so if you attempt to open the folder/website, you will be prompted to input the login information. You may create or remove a number of usernames for the same folder, if necessary. When you go to the File Manager section, all password-protected folders shall be shown with a compact padlock icon.
